Individual

While open individual spaces don’t provide the same level of acoustic privacy as enclosed spaces, they’re still well-suited to independent work, particularly for teams. There’s considerable variety in the configuration of these spaces for different independent work modes.

Booth

Booths are typically off-the-shelf products that can be purchased from a furniture provider. Infrastructure is integrated, which make these units a flexible solution for private or semiprivate space.

Open

The single-person booth is a space that lets IBM employees’ creativity flow or enables them to focus on their work with provided technology. The open frame enables a connection to the open workspace while facilitating focus.

Closed

The single-person reading booth delivers a space for reading and learning. IBM employees can tuck away in this intimate space to read or take a call. Each booth has space for a laptop and reading material, minimizing other tech distractions.

High top

High-top counters and tables provide alternatives to the seated workstation, and a standing option when sit-stand workstations aren’t available. They should be used sparingly to limit accessibility constraints.

Counter

The high-top counter isn’t strictly for the individual. Team members can quickly set up and collaborate or work individually in an informal setting. With the absence of technology, IBM employees can focus and maintain efficiency. Ergonomic task chairs support good posture to efficiently work on digital production and technical tasks.

Table

The high-top table provides quick access to a meeting and collaborating space in an informal setting. Ergonomic task chairs support good posture to quickly tackle individual or team tasks, but aren’t designed for all-day working.

Workstation

The workstation is a space for IBM employees to perform focused tasks while near team members with appropriate technology and tools, determined by region. Seat or neighborhood assignments will be determined by the business units.

Carrel

The carrel provides an alternative space type to maintain focus. Wraparound partitions provide minimal visual and acoustical barriers with space to bring a laptop.

    • Consider an ottoman for the integrated upholstered chair

Team table

The team table provides a touchdown to long-term space for individual work in an ergonomic setting, as well as a shared team space.
