Removing the 8231-E2B, 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D storage interposer card with the power off

Use this procedure to remove the storage interposer card with the power off.

Note: The storage interposer card for the 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D server is physically wider than the storage interposer card for the 8231-E2B server, but the removal procedure is identical.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete the steps for removing a card. For instructions, see Removing a part using the Hardware Management Console.

If you do not have an HMC, complete the following steps to remove the storage interposer card.

  1. Perform the prerequisite tasks described in Before you begin.
Note: Do not disconnect the power cords at this time.
  2. Identify the system that you will be working on by using the identify the system process to turn on the system locate (blue) indicator. For more information, see Enabling enclosure indicators and Control panel LEDs.
  3. Stop the system. For instructions, see Stopping a system or logical partition.
  4. Place the system in the service position. For instructions, see Placing a rack-mounted model in the service position.
  5. Remove the service access cover. For instructions, see Removing the service access cover.
  6. Identify the storage interposer card location.
  7. After you identify and locate the correct part and location, place the system back into the operating position. For instructions, see Placing a rack-mounted model into the operating position. The system does not function with the cover removed; however, this is the correct system position at this time to disconnect cables.
  8. Disconnect the power source from the system by unplugging the system. For instructions, see Disconnecting the power cords.
Note: This system might be optionally equipped with a second power supply. Before continuing with this procedure, ensure that the power source to the system has been completely disconnected.

  9. Place the system in the service position. For instructions, see Placing a rack-mounted model in the service position.
  10. Attach the wrist strap.
    Attention:
    • Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging your hardware.
    • When using a wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures. A wrist strap is for static control. It does not increase or decrease your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical equipment.
    • If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
  11. Remove the power interlock switch. For instructions, see Removing the 8231-E2B, 8231-E1C, 8231-E1D, 8231-E2C, 8231-E2D, or 8268-E1D power interlock switch with the power off.
  12. If present, remove the external serial-attached SCSI (SAS) port cable from the port on the interposer card. For instructions, see Removing and replacing the external SAS port.
  13. Move the disk drive backplane forward enough so that it clears the connector.
  14. Disconnect the control panel cable (A).

  15. Pull the blue release latch to the open position, as shown in Figure 2.
  16. Lift the storage interposer card out of the system.

Next, replace the storage interposer card with the power off. For instructions, see Replacing the storage interposer card with the power off.
