The following fixes and updates are included in the December 2016 PTFs:

Overall Navigator for i changes:

  1. IBM Navigator for i now supports HTTP as default protocol instead of HTTPs. Users can access Navigator through port 2001 as before (http://<hostname>:2001/).  You will now be redirected to HTTP port 2004 instead of HTTPs port 2005.
    • HTTPs will be disabled by default. This means any bookmarks to https://<hostname>:2005 will no longer work unless HTTPs is enabled
    • You will get an error such as Unable to Connect if you attempt to connect to port 2005.  If you want to re-enable the port 2005 connection, follow the support doc instructions to enable HTTPs on our service page: Enabling SSL for IBM Navigator for i
  2. New browsers Safari and Edge can now be used to access IBM Navigator for i.  IE is no longer supported . IBM Navigator for i supports the latest version of Mozilla FirefoxGoogle Chrome, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
  3. 7.3 code for Navigator is now running on 7.2 and 7.1.  This provides all the updates and enhancements that have been put into 7.3 code as long as the dependencies are available on that release.

Component Enhancements:

  1. Subsystem management within IBM Navigator for i has been greatly expanded.  Previously, only the currently active subsystems could be displayed and worked with using Navigator.  A new node for Subsystem Descriptions has been added under the Work Management node.  This displays the subsystem descriptions on the IBM i.  From this list, you can create a subsystem description.  You can also change, start, stop, show jobs, delete, and edit properties for existing subsystem descriptions.  The properties for a subsystem description now allow the user to add/change/remove the following type of subsystem description attributes, without having to know the appropriate CL command:
    -- autostart job entries
    -- work station name entries
    -- work station type entries
    -- job queue entries
    -- routing entries
    -- communication entries
    -- remote location name entries
    -- prestart job entries

  2. The Journal Viewer utility has been enhanced with new filtering capabilities that include: ending receiver, ending sequence number, and ending date/time.

  3. Bell (4-port Async adapter) has been added to support Async PPP on IBM Navigator for i.

  4. Under Add Tape action, a function for making cartridges available has been added.

  5. Display PTF apply information is added to IBM Navigator for i.  This can used to predict if the selected PTFs or PTF group can be applied immediately from *SERVICE.

  6. System Monitors daemon job QINAVMNSRV is now running under QLWISVR instead of QSECOFR. Users need to be added to a new authorization list (QINAVMNTR). Public can't access the new Data Queue by default.

  7. IFS Symbolic Link Indicator, which can separate symbolic link and real files/directories in order to allow users to determine file structure quicker and easier.

  8. Dashboard is a new feature delivered on IBM Navigator for i 7.3. With the Dashboard, users can view key system data in real time.  This provides visual indicators of overall system status and health.  New defaults are set to minimize overhead, Interval (the frequency at which a snapshot of system activity is reported): 60s, Duration (length of time data is collected during the interval): 5s.

  9. The AFP Manager function is being added to IBM Navigator for i for V7R3. It is currently part of the System i Navigator client application. AFP Manager lets you work with AFP resources (code pages, coded fonts, font character sets, form definitions, overlays, page definitions, and page segments), font mapping tables, and PSF configuration objects. You can create an AFP resource on your personal computer and save it as an object on the system. This is called importing. AFP Manager also lets you create font mapping tables and PSF configuration objects.

Other Fixes

  1. Fix for when IFS Upload function in IBM Navigator for i puts PC Files into IFS directories, but changes the file name to lower case. File names after uploading by IBM Navigator for i will be kept the same.
  2. Fixed problem with "View as PDF" function in printer output that did not work when the user profile contained a "#" character or the spool file user has a "#" character.
  3. Sending PTFs function in IBM Navigator for i fails with message  "An error has occurred" when setting the Browser's locale to Dutch language, because the text to be displayed has single quote.
  4. When configuring EIM and you use an EIM domain that already exists it would crash LDAP with error GLD0433.  Now LDAP server will not crash and the GUI will catch the duplicate domains problem and fail with:  "Error occurred while creating domain EIM. EIM Domain entry already exists in EIM".
