Unable to Connect

Unable to Connect error such as "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at xxx.xx.xxx.xx:2005"

IBM Navigator for i supports HTTP as default protocol instead of HTTPs. Users can access Navigator through port 2001 as before (http://<hostname>:2001/).  You will then be redirected to HTTP port 2004 instead of HTTPs port 2005.

  • HTTPs will be disabled by default. This means any bookmarks to https://<hostname>:2005 will no longer work unless HTTPs is enabled.
  • You will get an error such as Unable to Connect if you attempt to connect to port 2005.  If you want to re-enable the port 2005 connection, follow the instructions to enable HTTPs on our service page: Enabling SSL for IBM Navigator for i

With the Dec 2016 SP PTFs, a change was made to redirect to http port 2004 instead of https port 2005 by default.

This was done because of problems customers were having getting into Navigator for i within the secure port.  There were SSL problems with browsers, difficulties with certificates, etc.  It was determined that most customers did not need SSL for IBM Navigator for i, so the change was made to default to http port 2004.  This is to help usability of Navigator.

Customers still have the choice to enable the secure port and redirect to https port 2005 again if they require it.

If nothing is done, any bookmarks users have to https://<systemname>:2005 will need to be changed to http://<systemname>:2004 or set bookmarks to http://<systemname>:2001 and allow the redirect.
