Error description

  • When tags having same names are used for different resources in
    a VMware environment protected by IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, an
    'on-demand' restore job can fail to create the VM.
    This failure happens when the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
    Inventory Service collected information about the VMware tags
    associated to the restored VM and about tags with the same name
    associated to other unrelated VMware objects
    (ESXi hosts, folders,...).

    Example of VMware tags with teh same name used in a simple
    vSphere environment:

    vCenter
       datacenter
           ESXi host 1 -> tag_1
              folder 1
                  VM_1
           ESXi host 2 -> tag_2
              folder 2
                  VM_2 -> tag_1

    When trying to restore VM_2 and associated tags, which would be
    the 'tag_1' associated to the original VM_2 but not wanting the
    same-named 'tag_1' that is associated to 'ESXi host 1'.

    The restore job log shows messages similar to:

      INFO,...,CTGGA1018 Creating VM <VM_Name> (VM 1 of 1)
    DETAIL,...,CTGGA1019 Configuring VM (<VM_Name>) (VM 1 of 1)
     ERROR,...,CTGGA1020,Failed to create VM (<VM_Name>). Error =

                        serviceprovider.common.hypervisor.exception
                         .HypervisorException) reports:
                         (HTTP Status: 400. null)
     ERROR,...,CTGGA1110,No selected item is recoverable.

    The VIRGO log indicates that the REST API call to the vCenter
    server is failing:

     INFO ... Rest call made to cis vcenter server https://
              <vCenter-Web-Address>:443/rest/com/vmware/cis/tagging

  • A change was made to ensure tags attached during restore are
    matched by ID when possible, instead of always matching by name.
