Adapter card troubleshooting

If an IBM Advanced Systems Management Adapter (ASMA), Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA), or other adapter (including 3rd party adapters) has been installed in an IBM server, but the adapter is not recognized during POST/BIOS or in the operating system, please check the following:
  1. Reseat the adapter firmly in the slot. If using a Hot-plug PCI slot, make sure the black plastic tab is pushed down and the orange power switch tab is fully closed.

  2. Verify that any additional status or header cables are connected correctly and seated completely. Please review your adapter documentation for details.

  3. Access the Configuration/Setup Utility program to ensure that all PCI slots are enabled. Click here to review information on the Configuration/Setup Utility program

    Accessing the Configuration/Setup Utility program

    1. Power up your system and watch the screen.
    2. Press F1 when the Configuration/Setup message appears

Note: If you enter the power-on password and an administrator (supervisor-level) password is also set, a limited version of the menu appears. To see the full menu, you must restart the server and enter the administrator password when you are prompted to enter a password. The System Configuration Utility main menu appears.

  4. Install the adapter in another slot or a known good slot.

  5. Remove all other adapters to verify there is no resource or compatibility conflict.

  6. If the adapter is recognized in the Configuration/Setup Utility program, but not recognized by the operating system, verify that the latest driver has been loaded for the adapter. Click here to download the latest drivers.

Note: Some operating systems contain native drivers for adapters that may not be the latest version or may have known performance issues. Check your adapter manufacturer's Web site for the latest drivers and known issues.

  7. If the adapter is recognize during POST/BIOS and within the operating system, but there are questions about the configuration of software, please see the ASMA/RSA adapter or contact the software vendor for support.

  8. If the above suggestions did not resolve your issue or you suspect that an IBM ASMA or RSA adapter may be faulty, please contact your local IBM Support Center for more assistance. You will need your Machine Type-Model, serial number and any adapter Field Replacement Unit (FRU) / Customer Replacement Unit (CRU) part numbers available. Click here to find your machine type/model and serial number or the FRU/CRU of your adapter. Thank you!
