Open the display to which you added the Sorting Options display module.
Select the Settings tab if it is not currently selected.
To define the sorting options that you want to display on the results screen in your
application, click the Sortby > Settings menu item from the side menu.
Each type of sort that is available on your search results page is defined by a Sortby
Group. Each sortby group consists of one or two sorting types: an initial sort that is used when
you click the label for a sorting group in the search intro bar on a search results page, and an
optional second sort that displays when you click the label for that sorting group a second
time.
Enter a Label for the sorting option that you are defining.
This is the name for this sorting option that will display in the header of your search
result pages.
In the First click (sort) field, enter the name of one of the sort types that
you previously defined in the form for your search collection
This is described in Review: Defining Sorting in a Source. This defines
the initial way in which search results will be sorted if you click on the
Label that you just defined. You can optionally select an icon for this sort
by selecting one of the options from the First arrow icon drop-down list. The icon will be
displayed to the right of the Label to indicate the type of sort that is being used. For example,
when sorting by year, you probably want the search results with the highest year values to be
displayed first, so you might want to specify the descending icon (a down-arrow) to be
displayed beside the label that you are using for this type of sort.
To define a type of sort to be performed if you click on the
Label for this sorting group, enter the name of a previously
defined sort type and an associated (optional) icon for that sort type.
Click OK to save the sortby group that you have just
defined.
Results
Figure 2 shows two sortby groups that have been define. The first of these, Relevance,
has no associated sort, so it maps to the default ranking and weighting options used in Watson Explorer Engine.
Tip: When defining custom sort options, it is usually a good idea to define an
empty sort option such as the Relevance sort option used in this example that restores the
default search result order used by Watson Explorer Engine. This
makes it easy for you to redisplay your search result using the Watson Explorer Engine default ranking after using your custom sorting
options.
Figure 2. Two Finished Sortby Groups
After saving your sortby groups, you should be able to test your project by selecting the
project name beside the Project: label in the left-hand navigation menu to see the sorting
options that you just defined in use, as shown previously in Figure 1.
