Managing compound documents
A compound document is a collection of files that are used together to form a single complete document.
A compound document consists of the following objects:
- A parent document component. This parent document is not required to contain content.
- A child document component that is linked to a parent document component by a component relationship object. Any child document component can be the parent document component of another compound document structure.
- A component relationship object that links a parent document component with its child document components. You can search for component relationship objects by using the administration console.
Component relationship objects
Component relationship objects are objects that link parent document components with child document components. Parent documents reference their child documents through these links. You can use the administration console to search for component relationship objects.
Exporting and importing compound documents
You can use FileNet® Deployment Manager to import and export a compound document structure.
FileNet Deployment Manager performs the following functions:
- Export all documents and links nested within the selected document.
- Include compound document links along with imported documents.
- Import compound document links separately from their associated documents.
For more information about using FileNet Deployment Manager to export and import compound documents, see Compound document data.
