"You have insufficient access to modify module ..." in IBM Rational DOORS

Question & Answer

Question

What causes the following error when attempting to do an import into a module in IBM Rational DOORS 8.3 and later? You have insufficient access to modify module The same operation was successful in versions prior to DOORS 8.3.

Cause

Due to a defect fix, as of IBM Rational DOORS 8.3, users with Read (R) and Create (C) access to a module, who also have Modify (M) and Delete (D) access that is propagated with Create access, can no longer perform imports in these modules. Performing an import requires Modify access to the module, as of DOORS 8.3.

Answer

As with objects, if you do not have Modify access to the module, then you cannot modify the module's Attribute values. As imports affect module-level attributes, you must have Modify access to the Attribute Value for an attribute definition, as well as Modify access to the Module, in order to modify a module attribute.

For more details, please refer to the 'Controlling access to a formal module' section in Chapter 4 of the Using DOORS manual. The Note in that section states:
Module attributes cannot inherit access rights, so additional access rights do not apply to module attributes and their values.
