Troubleshooting

Problem

Which ports need to be open for Cognos Analytics to communicate across servers and do they need to be opened bi-directionally?

Resolving The Problem

Access to the Cognos Connection requires port 9300 (default port or the port configured in the dispatcher URI in Cognos Configuration) to be open between the webserver and the application server. If there is a firewall between the servers, then you must open this port for bi-directional communication.
Typically, most of the requests will be initiated from webserver to dispatcher. In some cases, the dispatcher(s) will be required to make requests to the webserver. For example, when a dispatcher needs to load images in reports for pdf output that are stored on the webserver. This is one scenario where it is recommended to open ports bi-directionally between all servers.
Starting with Cognos Analytics 11.2.0, you will also have to ensure that the ports being utilized for NodeJS are also open. For NodeJS, please choose a port range that includes at least '10' available ports. The default 9303-9323 port spread in Cognos Configuration is used for Mobile, Dashboard and Data Platform.
Refer to --
The port range '9303-9323' in parameter 'NodeJS Services port range' located in 'Environment' is invalid. -
