Question & Answer
Question
MongoDB is installed as a dependency for IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS).
Which type of encryption is available for MongoDB?
Answer
When you install MongoDB as part of the MAS installation, the community edition is installed.
This version does not offer encryption at rest.
For MongoDB backup and restore, the IBM MAS documentation mentions "mongodump":
"mongodump" and "mongorestore" interact with the MongoDB data store in a manner similar to your application, employing a driver to establish a connection with the database server for query transmission.
The command "mongodump" does not encrypt data during the writing process. Therefore, if encryption is a requirement for your backup, you must apply encryption to the backup files after the backup operation is finished.
If you require the database to be encrypted, consider to deploy MongoDB enterprise edition outside of Red Hat OpenShift and then implement encryption at rest.
