Where can I find the Internet Information Services (IIS) logs on the webserver?

Resolving The Problem

By default, the logs are stored in the following directory:


    %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\Logfiles\W3SVC1

By default, %SYSTEMROOT% is C:\Windows.



TIP: If you still cannot find the logs, then there is another different method you can use:
  1. Logon to the IIS webserver as an administrator
  2. Go to 'Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools'
  3. Run Internet Information Services (IIS)
  4. Find your web site under the tree on the left and right-click on it.
  5. Choose 'properties'
  6. On the Web Site tab, you should see an option near the bottom that says "Active Log Format." Next to it is a Properties button. Click on the Properties button.
  7. At the bottom of the General Properties tab, you'll see a box that contains the log file directory and the log file name. The full log path is comprised of the log file directory plus the first part of the log file name.
For example, assume the dialog showed you the following values:
  • Log file directory: C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles
  • Log file name: W3SVC1\exyymmdd.log
