Question & Answer
Question
What is the maximum number of fields that can be defined on an Entity or Link, in iBase?
Answer
The maximum number of fields that can be defined on an Entity or Link is 244.
This maximum includes system-generated fields such as Created Date, etc. This leaves a maximum which can defined by the user of around 235 fields .
This limit is the same in iBase 8.9.x and iBase 9.x
In iBase 8.9.x, a large number of fields would cause significant performance slowdown, when the Entity or Link was being used. Performance optimisation work in iBase 9.0 means that the performance impact of a large number of fields is greatly reduced.
You should consider your schema design, if you find you are defining a very large number of fields on an Entity or Link. It is possible that a more efficient schema design would be to decompose the Entity or Link into 2 or more different objects, each with a fewer number of fields. However, if you really want to have a large number of fields (ie, =< 235) on an object, it is possible.
