What is indexed and searchable?

Question & Answer

Question

What is indexed and searchable?

Answer

Indexing notes

If you are not finding what you are looking for in session searches the item you are searching for might not be indexed.
The cxImpact User's Guide offers notes on this topic.

Response indexing

In the Response HTTP Headers HTML markup tags and JavaScript code are not indexed due to index space considerations...but free text items are indexed. To see approximately what is indexed in a response and therefore is searchable use the RTV response view. Right click in the response and select the "indexed" view. This will give you a good idea of the words you can search by to find that particular page. Note that this view is a 'best effort' by RTV but may not exactly match what is indexed depending on the indexing configuration.

Also note if there are items that are commonly required for searches the best practice is to copy them into the response section (in [appdata]) where they will always be indexed. This is done via Privacy rules in the PCA HBR or canister transport service.

Request Indexing

In a request specific items indexed: (7.2 8.x 9.x)

  • [AppData] Section

    • Everything is indexed in this section. If you wish to index something else in the request copy it here.

  • [Env] Section

    • Only the following fields are indexed:

      • http_referer

      • http_remote_addr

      • local_addr

      • referer

      • remote_addr

      • remote_host

      • StatusCode

      • URL

  • [Timestamp] Section

    • Only the following fields are indexed:

      • NT_Grade

      • RT_Grade

      • WS_Grade

  • [URLFields] Section

    • Everything is indexed in this section...use the ?Form Field? search for these items.

Cookies are not automatically added to the indexes but can be copied to [appdata] to make them searchable.

URL Fields / Query Strings

A request?s query string is decomposed into name value pairs in [urlfield].
The "name=value" formatting is not indexed as a continuous string...instead
these pairs are directly searchable array.

The search option "Form Field" is used for these query string elements.

For example in the "Page Info" area select the "Form Field" search type and enter:

?????? Form Field "includes": (box 1: Lastname) (box 2: Smith)

This search method provides an exact match for these name-value pairs.
Also note you can search for a negative result
for example where Lastname is not Smith...something you could not do with a plain text search.
