Question & Answer

Question

What happens in the background when a module is 'Setup for Sharing' in IBM Rational DOORS

Answer

In Rational DOORS, to setup a module for 'Shareable Edit', use the 'Setup for Sharing' feature in the module and then specify the level at which the sharing has to be enabled.

However, in the background the 'Inherit from Parent" option will be unchecked for the objects which fall under the level selected in the 'Setup for Sharing' window, thereby creating editable sections in the module at the specified level.

For example: If a module has three level-2 objects and a user clicks 'Tools' -> 'Setup for Sharing' and selects the level to be shared as '2', then in the background DOORS will automatically remove the 'Inherit from Parent' option for the three level-2 objects in the module and will give a confirmation dialog stating three editable sections are created.
