What is the function of the DB version field for the Oracle inspection engine

Troubleshooting

Problem

In version 10 a new field has been added to the inspection engine for Oracle S-TAP. It has been observed that when upgrading from Guardium V9 S-TAPs that this DB Version field defaults to 9.

However when installing a new S-TAP using v10.x this field reflects the DB version of the Oracle instance being monitored by the S-TAP.
Is the contents of DB version required by any other Guardium functionality and does this field need to be the correct database version?
If yes, is there a way of updating this automatically?

Resolving The Problem

Specific to Oracle only, this filed is only used in conjunction with the 'encryption' parameter.
  • If 'encryption = 1' in the guard_tap.ini file, the field will reflect the current Oracle database version.
  • If 'encryption = 0' in the guard_tap.ini file, the value for that parameter will default to 9.
