What is the difference between a data server connection and data source connection?

Question & Answer

Question

The "Data Server Connection" is primarily used for Self Service BI purpose, to be used mostly by Business Users who do not have Framework Manager access to create a Metadata Model Is the Data Server Connection going to replace Data Source Connection or, as mentioned above, is it for Business Users only? Also, if a Business User creates a Data Server Connection, will Framework Manager be able to access data via "Data Server Connection", or will Framework manager only be able to access Data Source connections?

Answer

Connections made in Admin Lite or Admin Classic UI can be used by either Framework Manager or Data Modules.

It provides an alternate user interface experience without showing the old Admin user experience.
There are some options that can be set in Admin Classic for connections that are not available in Admin Lite.

The other distinction is that connections in Admin Lite provide the means to import physical metadata from the database which data modules consume. That metadata would exist in a FM model/linked model and not under the connection in Cognos Administration.
