Question & Answer
Question
What ports are related to Websphere Lombardi Edition 7.1?
Answer
This question is an extremely complex question and does not have a single answer. The answer depends on several factors such as: is this a node in a cluster, are/were there port conflicts at installation time, if you have done post-configuration on the ports and so on.
Background information
During installation, WebSphere Lombardi Edition 7.1 attempts to use ports that it detects are available on the server. After installation, WebSphere Lombardi Edition 7.1 lists the ports that it uses in the following file:
<Lombardi_home>/AppServer/profiles/Lombardi/config/cells/LombardiCell01/nodes/ProcessCenter01/serverindex.xml.
Because WebSphere Lombardi Edition 7.1 installs a full WebSphere server, the preceding file lists more ports than are actually used by the WebSphere Lombardi Edition code.
How to determine the ports WebSphere Application Server is using
If you look under the WebSphere Application Server administrative console, you can find many of the ports each server uses:
- Administrative console addresses on the machine http://localhost:9060/ibm/console/ http://localhost:9061/ibm/console/
- Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere Application Servers
- For each server (server1, twprocsvr, twperfsvr):
- Select the server
- Select Communications > Ports
Clustering
If you define a horizontal cluster with several cluster members, each cluster member (being an application server) has unique values for the following ports. The value assigned to each of these addresses is incremented by 1 for each cluster member (assuming that the port is not held by any process):
- BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS
- ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS
- WC_defaulthost
- SIB_ENDPOINT_ADDRESS
- BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS
- ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS
- CSIV2_SSL_SERVERAUTH_LISTENER_ADDRESS
Note: The port numbers listed in the following table are samples. The actual port used by your WebSphere Lombardi Edition installation might be different due to port conflicts during installation.
For Process Center
Port Name | Sample Number | Protocol | Failures if blocked |
BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS | 12812 | JNDI | AE cannot login |
ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS | 9101 | AE cannot login
WC_Defaulthosts | 19086 | HTTP | All Web based interaction blocked. This statement means Process Center, Process Portal, and Process Admin Console are not accessible. Communication to run-time servers is broken. |
SIB_ENDPOINT_ADDRESS | 7277 | JMS | AE initializes with a Java™ Message Service (JMS) connection error |
BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS | 12811 | JNDI | Communication with Performance Data Warehouse fails. Cannot generate historical data from a simulation scenario. |
ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS | 9102 | Communication with Performance Data Warehouse fails
CSIV2_SSL_SERVERAUTH_LISTENER_ADDRESS | 4552 | Send Definitions to Performance Data Warehouse fails with SSL error
WC_Defaulthost | 19085 | HTTP | Performance Admin Console unavailable |
For run-time Server
Port Name | Sample Number | Protocol | Failures if blocked |
BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS | 12812 | JNDI | Cannot install process application |
ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS | 9101 | Process Inspector cannot connect to Process Server
WC_Defaulthosts | 19086 | HTTP | All Web based interaction blocked. This statement means Process Portal and Process Admin Console are not accessible. |
SIB_ENDPOINT_ADDRESS | 7277 | JMS | AE cannot connect to Production Process Server in Inspector. |
BOOTSTRAP_ADDRESS | 12811 | JNDI | Communication with Performance Data Warehouse fails |
ORB_LISTENER_ADDRESS | 9102 | Communication with Performance Data Warehouse fails
CSIV2_SSL_SERVERAUTH_LISTENER_ADDRESS | 4552 | Send Definitions to Performance Data Warehouse fails with SSL error
WC_Defaulthost | 19085 | HTTP | Performance Admin Console unavailable |
Important: Refer to the following WebSphere Application Server document:
WebSphere firewall ports that must be open for communication between the deployment manager and nodeagent.
Additional notes:
There might be other ports necessary to the operation of WebSphere Lombardi Edition 7.1 that are not specifically defined in this article. Again, check the "How to determine the ports WebSphere Application Server is using" section at the top of this article.
