This is the publication release for providing installation guides and web link to QLogic software download support URLs for QLogic-based 10Gb CNAs for IBM System x and BladeCenter.
This release supports the following IBM option products:

- QLogic 10Gb SFP+ SR Optical Transceiver 49Y4218
- QLogic 2-port 10Gb CNA (CFFh) for IBM BladeCenter 42C1830
IBM 10Gb CNAs Details:
- 42C1800 Option = 42C1801 Card Assembly = 42C1802 FRU.
- 49Y4218 Option = 42C1815 optic Assembly = 42C1816 FRU.
- 42C1830 Option = 42C1831 Card Assembly = 42C832 FRU
These products are multifunctional devices where each port is supported for both Ethernet (NIC) and Fiber Channel over Ethernet (Storage).
- 49Y4218 is needed for 42C1800 if you need SFP+ SR optical connection.

1.0 Overview
This is the drivers software release update for QLogic 10Gb CNAs for IBM System x and BladeCenter. This sw release supports x86, x64, and AMD64 servers.
The operating systems supported include Microsoft Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Windows 2008 R2, Linux RHEL 5.3, Linux SLES 10 SP2 and SLES 11.
Note that RHEL 5.4 or later, and SLES 10 SP3 or later, and SLEs 11 SP1 or later, are all supported in-box.
All Microsoft Windows device drivers are MS digitally signed.
1.1 Limitations
Latest available service pack or fix pack should be picked up for each supported operating system, where applicable.
For server configuration with more than 64 CPU cores, in Windows 2008 x64 / R2, you will need to pick up the v1.0.1.3 Windows NDIS x64 device driver update from this release.

Then select OEM Models then IBM then navigate to all supported IBM QLogic-based products.
- There are also IBM firmware or device driver software update packages, for Windows and Linux, that are provided in separate IBM software download support URLs, for each IBM System x server model supported by each of these IBM QLogic-based 10Gb CNAs.
- We do provide, as a courtesy, in this publication posting, the firmware update packages for the update via a DOS bootable USB key or EFI bootable USB key.
- There are separate folders for Fw/BIOS flash update for QLE8142 and QMI8142.
- Please read the Fw_Update.txt file before any Fw/BIOS flash update.
- We also provide the v1.0.1.3 Windows NDIS x64 device driver package for supporting server configuration with > 64 CPU cores in Microsoft Windows 2008 x64 / R2.
Example would be a 2-nodes configuration with IBM System x x3950 X5 server model.
- This v4.0 software update supports both FIP0 and FIP1 for these CNAs.
For FIP1 support, the CNAs have to be updated to the firmware levels from this release.
For Windows and Linux firmware update packages, you need to completely install the CNA for both network and storage functions ( with network device driver and storage device driver ) before running the firmware update.
3.0 Build and Installation Instructions
For 42C1800 (QLE8142), please read the QLE8142_Guide.pdf.
For 42C1830 (QMI8142), please read the QMI8142_Guide.pdf.
For each supported OS, please read specific readme for each for installation information and instructions.
- This release supports both FIP0 and FIP1 for FCoE.
- This release supports > 64 CPU cores server configuration.
- PXE boot is now supported for both FRU 42C1802 adapter and FRU 42C1832 card.
