Problem

The collector utility gathers important problem determination information that can be sent in for analysis. This document provides information about the utility.

Resolving The Problem

The collector utility gathers important problem determination information that can be sent in for analysis. The output is in a single JAR file. One of the drawbacks of this utility is that the size of the JAR file can be large based on the amount and size of the log files this utility collects.  As a result, it is advised, but not required, to stop the application server, clear the log files, and then re-create the issue and run this collector utility.  This helps reduce the amount of log file data collected.

Here are the steps on how to execute the WebSphere collector utility on the IBM i OS:

STRQSH

/QIBM/UserData/WebSphere/AppServer/<version>/<edition>/profiles/<profile>/bin/collector -JarOutName /home/wasdata.jar

where...

<version> = V85 or V9
<edition> = Express, Base, or ND
<profile> = the name of your WAS profile
