Use case for inventory rule - Ignore Capacity For RTAM

Question & Answer

Question

What is the product use case of the inventory rule Ignore Capacity For RTAM in IBM Sterling Order Management?

Cause

You want to know the impact of the new rule.

Answer

In Application Manager, at Global Inventory Visibility-Inventory Rules-Other Rules;
the Ignore Capacity For Real Time Availability Monitor rule is available.

If a node has an Inventory Capacity defined then in a promising API's (findInventory, ScheduleOrder etc.) there is a way to surpass capacity check. So, at some particular state or date, although inventory capacity for a date is consumed; if business decides to continue with product schedule and release for the date, it can be achieved in promising api's.

The rule Ignore Capacity For Real Time Availability Monitor is introduced to have a similar functionality in case of RTAM. Also, the capacity calculations are costly. There are requirements of RTAM not to consider capacity and publish full inventory picture while scheduling still continue to consider it.

Example Scenario:
For a Node, the Node Capacity=0 for a week/more duration and Onhand quantity=5 for an item.

  • If Ignore Capacity for RTAM rule is CHECKED and RTAM is run; 5 quantity should be available.

  • If Ignore Capacity for RTAM rule is UNCHECKED and RTAM is run; 0 quantity should be available.

This rule is a handle to ignore Node Inventory capacity for RTAM calculations.
