Summary
This document describes what to check if the USB key is not seen on the Low-End POWER8 systems.
Objective
Assist a user in troubleshooting why a USB key may not be recognized or seen by the operating system.
Steps
The diagram shows the correct ports to be used for server firmware updates and for operating systems.
1.The P1-C1-T2 and T3 ports (the black USB 2.0 ports) are used only for firmware update on a system that is not managed by a HMC.
These ports are unavailable for host operating systems.
2.The P1-T1 and T2 port, as well as the T5 and T6 ports on the front of the system can be used to assign a USB key on a logical partition.
For 8247-21L, 8247-22L, and 8284-22A, you can also used P1-T3 and P1-T4.
These USB 3.0 ports are blue.
Be sure, the port is assigned on the logical partition's profile.
3. There are typically several systems in the rack, ensure the USB was inserted into the correct system target and not a different system or an HMC.
