Troubleshooting
Problem
During an upgrade of IBM Rational ClearCase on Unix platforms, the file /etc/exports.mvfs is overwritten with a template, losing any customizations contained in the file.
Cause
During upgrades, the file is replaced by a fresh template to accommodate for differences between releases of IBM Rational ClearCase. As a result, differences in configuration between the new template file and the previously existing version must me resolved manually after the upgrade completes.
Environment
All the supported Unix platforms where IBM Rational ClearCase has been installed using the IBM Installation Manager. This issue has been resolved on IBM Rational ClearCase versions 7.1.2.7 and 8.0.0.3.
Resolving The Problem
During the upgrade process, the IBM Installation Manager creates a backup of the /etc/exports.mvfs file under the system's temporary directory, inside a folder called "Rational.preserve. After the backup has been created, the new template is installed.
These directories are examples showing a the location of the Rational.preserve folder and the exports.mvfs file within it.
System temporary directory : /tmp
Rational.preserve location : /tmp/Rational.preserve
exports.mvfs file location : /tmp/Rational.preserve/etc/exports.mvfs
After the update process is completed, compare the file at /etc/exports.mvfs and the backup version at /tmp/Rational.preserve/etc/exports.mvfs. Merge any of the custom configuration instructions from the backup into the new template.
After merging the changes , export the VOBs again using the export_mvfs command. For more information, see the MVFS reporting - export_mvfs topic in the IBM Rational ClearCase Information Center.
