Overview

The goal of this document is to provide a central set of instructions, information, and references to enable you to upgrade your Content Manager OnDemand server successfully. If upgrading to a new Content Manager OnDemand server version, there are additional steps that must be performed before and after the software has been upgraded.

Pre-upgrade Tasks

  1. Check the end of support date for your target Content Manager OnDemand server level by reviewing the IBM Software Support Lifecycle. Search for the product name, Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms.

  2. Review the latest Content Manager OnDemand flashes and alerts for known critical issues before choosing your target Content Manager OnDemand server version, release, modification, and fixpack level.

  3. Ensure you meet the prerequisites of your target Content Manager OnDemand server level. Select the tab corresponding to your target level for specific prerequisite information.

  4. Review the Content Manager OnDemand server and client compatibility matrix.

  5. Download the required target Content Manager OnDemand server software.

  6. Have a copy of your current Content Manager OnDemand server software available in case the upgrade must be backed out. To downgrade to a previous version, you must uninstall the Content Manager OnDemand server software, re-install, and upgrade back to your previous version.

  7. If on Unix® or Linux®, backup your Content Manager OnDemand server configuration files (ars.ini, ars.cfg, ars.cache, ars.dbfs, arsload.cfg) and custom user exits. The upgrade installers might override your existing files if incorrect install options are selected.

These files are typically found in your Content Manager OnDemand server config, exits, bin, and bin/exits subdirectories.

  8. Take a backup of your Content Manager OnDemand database. Migrating between versions of the Content Manager OnDemand server might require commands that will alter your database. To back out of an upgrade, one required step is to restore a database backup taken at your previous Content Manager OnDemand server level.

Where to Download Fixpacks

A fixpack requires an existing installation of the Content Manager OnDemand server and cannot be used to install the software from scratch. The Content Manager OnDemand fixpacks can be downloaded from IBM Fix Central. Select the following options:

  • Product Group: Enterprise Content Management
Product: Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms
Where to Download Full Install Packages
