Troubleshooting
Problem
After completing Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) firmware update for System x 3850 X5 from version 1.00 to 1.01, the Vital Product Data (VPD) continues to display FPGA version 1.00. The VPD can be seen in F1 System Information, IMM Web interface - VPD link, and in IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) reports.

Symptom
After completing Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) firmware update for System x 3850 X5 from version 1.00 to 1.01, the Vital Product Data (VPD) continues to display FPGA version 1.00. The VPD can be seen in F1 System Information, IMM Web interface - VPD link, and in IBM Dynamic System Analysis (DSA) reports.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3850 X5, type 7145, any model
- System x3850 X5, type 7146, any model
- System x3950 X5, type 7145, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The following system firmware level(s) are affected:
- FPGA Version 1.01 - Build ID g0ud29c
Solution
This behavior has been corrected in FPGA firmware version 1.03 and higher.
The file is available by selecting the appropriate machine type on the 'Software and device drivers - IBM System x' web page, at the following URL:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=psg1MIGR-4JTS2T |
Workaround
To verify a successful update of FPGA firmware, verify that the Build ID displays Build ID G0UD29C or higher.
Additional information
This issue has been resolved in FPGA firmware update 1.03 and higher. After updating FPGA to the latest release, the FPGA version number will be correctly displayed by VPD.
