Abstract
The license generator in the Rational License Key Center (RLKC) is now updated. You can generate a license that will always be valid even if the underlying hardware of the machine that is running your Software-based License Server changes.

- When the license is running on a physical Linux system, the license fingerprint that is created by using this generator does not rely on the combination of various hardware components.
- When the license is running on a virtual Linux system, the license fingerprint does not rely on the hardware components of physical machine, and the attributes of the virtual machine such as the UUID.
This new capability is only a back-end change for the license generator, and all the steps to generate the license remain unchanged.
To use this new capability, choose one of the following scenarios, and perform the required steps.

If you have existing licenses, follow these steps:
- Return your existing license entitlement in the Rational License Key Center.
- Obtain an update file for your Software-based License Server.
- Apply the update file to your Software-based License Server machine.
Or, you can wait until your current licenses expire, and go through the renewal process.
