Problem

Uncheckout of renamed directory in IBM Rational ClearCase after uncheckout of its parent directory fails.

Symptom

Steps to reproduce:

  1. From \help\plugins\abc\, check out \plugins.
  2. Rename \abc to \def
  3. Check out \help\plugins\def
  4. Uncheckout \help\plugins\
  5. Uncheckout \help\plugins\abc\

Result: uncheckout fails

Cause

This disorderly workflow is not supported.

Resolving The Problem

As a rule, uncheckout the child elements first and then their parents. In the case of the example that is cited above, you would
  1. Uncheckout \help\plugins\
  2. Uncheckout \help\plugins\abc\
  3. First uncheckout the child using its new name, and then uncheckout the parent:
    1. Uncheckout \help\plugins\def\
    2. Uncheckout \help\plugins\
