Troubleshooting
Problem
User selects several cells, across 2 (or more) levels in a hierarchy. User presses CTRL-C to copy them into their clipboard.
User selects a different cell, and presses 'CTRL-V' to paste. An error appears.
Symptom
The error will vary slightly depending on the content of your clipboard. For example, if trying to copy this:
...and then paste into here:
...would give this error:
Unable to paste cell(s)
Invalid numeric value 'xyz' specified
Cause
Defect (reference APAR PH06217) in Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW).
Environment
Problem has been seen in Planning Analytics 2.0.37.
Diagnosing The Problem
Problem only affects cells that have been created/modified in a specific way.
Example:
Create a new dimension (e.g. RC_dim1). Create two new members (for example RC_text1 and RC_text2). Configure these to be 'String' (text):
Create a cube, using that new dimension plus another (for example Country and Region):
Create a new view, so it looks similar to:
Type in some text into 'RC_text1' and try copying it...
...then pasting it into 'RC_text2'. It will fail (with an error) if your source/destination cells are on different hierarchies (levels).
Resolving The Problem
Fix:
Upgrade Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) to version 2.0.39 (or later).
Workaround:
Either:
(a) Copy and paste multiple items/members at the same level.
- In other words, do not copy and paste cells (from one attribute to another) across different levels in a hierarchy.
(b) In some situations, it may be possible to update the attributes by using the dimension editor instead.
