Unable to import an ARXML file into IBM Rhapsody

Question & Answer

Question

Why am I unable to import a large ARXML file into IBM Rhapsody?

Cause

File size is too large; approximately 100 MB or larger.

Answer

It is possible you reached the system limit that allows for the file to be imported. We cannot tell where exactly that limit line exists because it depends on the memory usage of the process when the import started. The same file size can succeed or fail depending on current memory usage.

There are a couple of things that can be done to possibly resolve this issue:

  1. Change from the 32-bit to the 64-bit version of Rhapsody.
  2. Modify the rhapsody.ini under [JVM] section and increase the JVM max heap size from:

    MaxHeap=-Xmx2048m

    to

    MaxHeap=-Xmx3072m

    If the MaxHeap is not there, add it under the JVM section.
