** Troubleshooting ** Cannot create/edit/delete users inside 'Maintain - Rights - Users' (menu options greyed out)

Troubleshooting

Problem

User clicks 'Maintain - Rights - Users'.
User selects (highlights) a different user.
  • The menu items are greyed out, so they cannot edit that user
In addition, the menu item to create a new user may be grayed out too.

Symptom

The ability to edit existing (and/or create new) users is prohibited:

Cause

There are several possible causes for this symptom:
  • Scenario #1 - User does not have permission to create/modify users
    • Specifically, it does not have 'User Group Administrator' ticked/enabled:

  • Scenario #2 - User does not belong to the user group 'MAIN'
    • By design, only users who belong to the top-level group 'MAIN' are allowed to create/modify users

  • Scenario #3 - A different user is locking the menu functionality
    • Specifically, only one user (at a time) are able to make changes inside 'Maintain - Rights - Users'
  • Scenario #4 - New Admin user has security group limitation. Within the security group limitation, it has 'Rights - users' set to read only
    • Specifically, if test remove the securtiy group from 'Limitations' tab on the new admin user account and test again, he will be able to  create/modify users

Resolving The Problem

Scenario #1
Modify the user so that 'User Group Administrator' ticked/enabled.

Scenario #2
This is by design. All users (who want to modify other existing users) must belong to the user group 'MAIN'.
  • For more details, see separate IBM Technote #123191.
Scenario #3
Ask the other user to logout of Controller, which will release the menu item 'Maintain - Rights - Users.
