You can access Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork usingvarious communications protocols and transport methods. During servicesetup the communications protocol and transport method are set upfor each mailslot.

Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork supportsthe following transport methods:
| Transport Method | Definition |

| Direct dial to an 800 or a 614 telephone number | Process of using a modem to connect two computers or acomputer and a network over a regular telephone line. Note: Directdial is available only for bisynchronous and SDLC/SNA protocols. |
| Local dial to an X.25 Public Data Network (PDN) | Computer network that uses the X.25 protocol to send andreceive data. Usually an X.25 network provides local access phonenumbers. Reliable communications protocol that is widely usedin public networks. |
Frame relay Frame relay requires a connectionto one of the frame-relay providers that connect to Sterling B2B CollaborationNetwork.Contact Customer Support for a current list of frame-relay providers. | Series of switches that lets you transmit packets of digitalinformation over a telecommunications line at high speeds. |
| Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) ISDNrequires an ISDN modem and translator software with an ISDN driverto access the modem. Availability varies by country. | International communications standard used to send voicevideo and data over digital phone lines at high speeds. |
