TNPM Wireless Component (Model Maker) – Reduced Data Model for Common Pack vs Normal Common Pack
According to Cognos Framework Manager User Guide – Impact of Model Size, the recommended model size should be less than 50 MB.
“Cognos model size may affect the efficiency of the Framework Manager application. Very large models will cause extended processing times and, in extreme cases, out-of-memory conditions. Actions such as Analyze Publish Impact, Find Report Dependencies, Publish Packages and Run Model Advisor perform optimally on models less than 50 megabytes.”
In Model Maker version 1.2.1, the new feature ‘Reduced Data Model’ is implemented. The reduced data model feature removes the database view from the generated model and saves approximately 40-50% on normal model size.
The subsequent sections explain the reduced data model (RDM) Common Pack vs normal Common Pack by using CDMA VN Tech Pack as reference.
Overview
The feature ‘Reduced Data Model’ is set in the configuration file ‘global.properties’ used by Model Maker component Generator. By default, this feature is OFF. To turn ON the feature, set the following in ‘global.properties’ before executing Generator.
MINIMUM_MODEL_SIZE=Y
By using the same tech pack (CDMA VN Tech Pack), the model size reduction is observed as below:
Description | Size (bytes) |
Normal Common Pack | 1,116,043 bytes |
Reduced Data Model Common Pack | 737,607 bytes |
% reduction | ~40% |
Normal Common Pack vs Reduced Data Model Common Pack
- Database Views
Normal Common Pack Database Views contain the CDMA VN NA Measurements (Database) and the CDMA VN NA Resources (Database).
The CDMA VN NA Measurements (Database) contains the subject queries which query directly from database for tech pack specific metrics. For example:
The CDMA VN NA Resources (Database) contains the subject queries which query directly from database for tech pack specific resources attributes. For example:
The Reduced Data Model Common Pack will not have the CDMA VN NA Measurements (Database) and the CDMA VN NA Resources (Database). These two namespaces are removed.
The similar subject queries are moved to Consolidation Views. Refer subsequent section.
- Consolidation Views
Consolidation Views structures for both Normal Common Pack and Reduced Data Model Common Pack remain the same, except its definitions.
The left pane is the Normal Common Pack, and the right is Reduced Data Model Common Pack.
The definition of the CDMA VN NA Measurements (Consolidation) in the Normal Common Pack referenced the namespace in Database Views, for example:
The definition of the CDMA VN NA Measurements (Consolidation) in the Reduced Data Model Common Pack queries directly from the database.
The definition of the CDMA VN NA Resources (Consolidation) in the Normal Common Pack referenced the namespace in Database Views, for example:
The definition of the CDMA VN NA Resources (Consolidation) in the Reduced Data Model queries directly from database, for example:
- Dimensional Views
The Dimensional Views for both Normal Common Pack and Reduced Data Model Common Pack are the same. No change is made.
Summary
With this feature in place, Model Maker can be used to generate a Common Pack which contains more metrics. دكتور علاج طبيعي الشيخ زايد
