Abstract
This fix pack is a cumulative fix release and addresses some new APARs and internally found issues since the release of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus 8.1.0 Fix Pack 24.
Download Description
Java 8 Important Information
This upgrade uninstalls the existing IBM Java 7 and installs the latest version of the IBM Java 8 JRE. If any of the Java 7 files were modified since the v8.1 installation, then these modified files are removed during the upgrade process, with the exception of the java.security file. Before you perform the upgrade, backup these modified files to a private location, then after the upgrade reapply the modifications. The Java 8 java.security file has big differences to the Java 7 java.security file, so any modifications will need to be applied after reviewing the default file.
IBM Java 8 will NOT run on some older versions of operating systems, which include the following operating systems:
- AIX 6.1 before Tech Level 9
- Older versions of Linux (due to a GLIBC 2.7 requirement)
- Solaris SPARC 32 bit (IBM Java on Solaris SPARC is 64 bit only)
The following defect solutions are included in this release:
8.1.0-TIV-NCOMNIbus-FP0025
--------------------------
To address possible security issues, Log4J has been updated to
version 2.13.3 for Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus V8.1.0.
IJ22742
If a managed process is stopped using nco_pa_stop, the ALERT_MSG
for the process is not displayed in syslog until after the rogue
timeout period. This issue has been fixed.
IJ26003
A cancel in a recursive trigger raise could cause the increment
field value for a table to decremented despite the value being
used in an insert. This could lead to rows with duplicate
increment field values (e.g. duplicate Serials). This situation
is now detected properly and avoided.
IJ28553
The output of the nco_pa_status command has been adjusted so that
it can accommodate long service, process and hostnames and
ensures that the results line up correctly.
IJ28641
The code added by IJ22959 in OMNIbus 8.1.0.23 introduced a race
condition that could cause a core dump of the ObjectServer if
multiple LDAP authentications took place in a short time frame.
There could also be a core upon first authentication attempt if
the connection to the LDAP server was lost. These problems have
been resolved.
IJ28675
Under certain circumstances some of the correlation tables used
by the scope based event grouping extension can grow with stale
entries. A new trigger has been added to ensure that stale
entries are periodically deleted.
IJ28785
To address possible security issues, the JRE for Tivoli
Netcool/OMNIbus V8.1.0 is updated to IBM JRE 8.0 SR6 FP25.
The UNIX native EventList GUIs could fail when attempting to load
a configuration obtained over HTTP. This was caused by the change
made in APAR IJ27407.
IJ29279
The init.d/nco startup script may produce a syntax error if run
when the networking has not been set up by the Operating System.
This has been resolved.
IJ29318
OMNIbus would not run correctly under Linux v5 kernels. This
problem is now fixed. The fix relies on backwards binary
compatibility.
IJ29357
The nco_http command line utility can now output the headers
received in the response by specifying the -outputheaders command
line argument or setting the appropriate property.
IJ29723
A new built-in user group called 'WebHA' has been added to the
ObjectServer. Member accounts of this group will have the correct
set of permissions required by a connection to the ObjectServer
that controls the High Availibility (HA) features of either
WebGUI or DASH, where the ObjectServer is used as the config
store. This change is related to APAR IJ29158 that was released
in WebGUI 8.1.0.21 and JazzSM 1.1.3.9.
There have been a number of enhancements to the password
restrictions which can be enabled to further increase password
security in the OMNIbus system.
'PasswordFormat' property. An additional option has been added so
that the number of consecutive characters of the username in the
password can be limited. By default this is set to 0, which is
disabled. A new sixth field controls this option and the
'PasswordFormat' default is now '8:1:1:0:1:0'.
ability to prevent users from re-using passwords within a defined
number of password changes. This change introduces two new
properties which can be configured. The first is
'PasswordInHistory'. This controls the number of historical
passwords stored. The second property is 'PasswordMinAge'. This
is the minimum age (in days) between password changes. If a user
attempts to change their password to one in their password
history, or before the minimum password age has passed, then the
attempt to change password will be rejected.
user whose password has expired, with the exception of the 'root'
user, will be locked out of the system until the password is
reset by an administrative user with appropriate permissions. To
provide a warning that a password is about to expire, a new
trigger, 'alert_users_to_old_passwords', has been shipped. By
default it is disabled. If enabled, it will run every 12 hours
and create an event warning about users whose password is
approaching expiry.
The new trigger is contained in the 'update81fp16to81fp25.sql'
file which should be reviewed before being installed.
'RestrictPasswords' option to be defined and set to TRUE, with
the exception of the trigger which does not use the
'RestrictPasswords' property.
'security.users' table then the mapping file will need to be
updated as there is a new column in this table. There is also a
new table, 'security.passwd_history'. If there is a requirement
to replicate this table, then the mapping files will also need to
be updated for this table. The sample mapping files have been
installed to the 'extensions/multitier' folder.
