Abstract
Systems with Distributed RAID arrays on 8.2.1.8, 8.3.0.0 or 8.3.0.1 may be exposed to APAR HU02104.
The probability of this issue is low, but if it occurs then the storage pool will be taken offline for 6 minutes before automatically recovering.
The fix is available in 8.2.1.9 and later, and 8.3.0.2 and later. No other software versions are affected.

APAR HU02104 is a RAID software issue that can lead to I/O timeouts, and cause a storage pool to be temporarily taken offline. It is caused by a deadlock condition which occurs under heavy I/O workload to the array, and prevents I/O requests from being processed successfully.
The probability of this occurring is normally low, but slightly higher on V5010 and V5020 systems under heavy I/O workloads such as high-data rate sequential backup jobs (as this type of workload can fill the system's cache).
Fix
A fix is available in 8.2.1.9 and 8.3.0.2. Upgrade to the latest 8.2.1.x or 8.3.x PTF to prevent this issue from occurring.
