The sizing spreadsheet is available for estimating the IBM Spectrum Archive Enterprise Edition cluster configuration. To open the spreadsheet, right-click on the following link and select the "Open Link in New Tab" or "Open Link in New Window" option.
IBM Spectrum Archive EE Calculator v1.3.2.0a.xlsx
The IBM Spectrum Archive EE Calculator is a spreadsheet that estimates the required tape hardware resources, such as the number of tape drives, number of tape cartridges, and amount of required disk cache space, based on the answers to the following questions.
A) Data Amount and Access Pattern
Q1: Amount of daily data ingested or newly created on disk
Q2: Amount of daily data retrieved from disk
Q3: Operation hours for ingestion and retrieval per day (1 to 24)
Q4: Average file size
B) Archive Retention Requirements
Q5: How long will data need to reside on disk after ingestion for instant access?
C) Archive Capacity Requirements
Q6: Total size of files to be archived on tape
Q7: Number of file replicas on tape (1 to 3. 1=No redundant copy)
D) Technology Selection
Q8: Tape media type (LTO or IBM 3592 Enterprise Tape)
Q9: Library Model (TS4500, TS4300, TS3500, TS3310)
Q10: LTO Drive Form Factor (Full Height or Half Height
Note:
1. The assessment result should be considered as the baseline, not the final. Performance is based on measurements and projections using standard IBM benchmarks in a controlled environment. The actual throughput or performance that any user will experience will vary depending upon many factors, including considerations such as the amount of multiprogramming in the user’s job stream, the I/O configuration, the storage configuration, and the workload processed. Therefore, no assurance can be given that an individual user will achieve results similar to those stated in the spreadsheet.
2. IBM Spectrum Archive EE can be configured as new system, or adding the tape gateway to the existing Spectrum Scale cluster or ESS. The sizing tool assumes that it is a new system, but the result can be applied other installation. See the attached slides for the highlevel overview of other configuration options.
