After cloning or imaging a hard disk drive using Symantec Norton Ghost, the system fails to boot the operating system. This information is provided as a source of reference for those who have cloned or imaged a hard drive which, upon boot, may fail to load the operating system. This anomaly has occurred using Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows 98SE operating systems, but may not be limited to specifically those operating systems.

The information provided relates to the use of Symantec Norton Ghost as the imaging software. If another imaging software is used, it is recommended that the user contact the manufacturer of that software if this anomaly is experienced.
If Symantec Norton Ghost is used to clone or image a hard drive and, upon boot, the operating system fails to load from that hard drive enter fdisk /mbr from a DOS prompt. If fdisk /mbr is unsuccessful, refer to Symantec's web site at http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/.
