This document answers some common questions about supported software environments in active Cognos Analytics releases.

Question: Which Db2 pricing options can be used to store data sets in Db2?

Answer

Any of the Db2 options that are pre-configured or can be configured for Db2 analytical work loads.

Edition that limits the number of database connections such as Db2 on Cloud Lite plan should not be used.

Question: Will this include Db2 installations on prem and on Cloud?

Answer

Yes. Cognos on-prem customers can connect to Db2 instances which may be on prem or on a cloud provider.
This feature is currently not available on cloud.

Question: Can I use the bundled DB2 that comes with Cognos?

Answer

Yes. You can reach out to Product Management to get an addendum for the 12.0.2 release of the product. You can also purchase a stand-alone DB2 Standard or Advanced Edition to leverage the columnar tables if they exceed the limit as outlined in the licenses. Please speak to your sales rep for purchase options.

Question: How do I know if a software application or a specific version of software is compatible with Cognos Analytics?

Answer

Software Product Compatibility Reports (SPCR) contain all of a product's compatibility information, including - but not limited to - hardware compatibility, operating system compatibility, software compatibility, and data source compatibility. To access a Cognos Analytics compatibility report, go to the IBM SPCR page and select the version of Cognos Analytics that you are looking for. Or you can access the Supported Software Environments pages for Cognos Analytics releases 11.0.x, 11.1.x, and 11.2.x to find compatibility reports for all supported Cognos Analytics releases.

Question: The Cognos Analytics compatibility report does not list the software that I am looking for. What should I do?

Answer

If certain software or a version of software is not listed in a Cognos Analytics compatibility report, it is not supported in the selected version of Cognos Analytics. You may choose to upgrade your Cognos Analytics installation to a version that supports the software. Or you can submit an idea in the IDEAS portal and suggest that Cognos Analytics support the software (Product = “Cognos Analytics”, include keyword “Conformance” in the idea name, Component = “Other”). We will evaluate your suggestion and determine if the software can be supported in an upcoming release.

Question: A new version of operating system/software was released recently. Will Cognos Analytics support this latest version?

Answer

We strive to support the latest releases for our customers. If you want a new version of operating system/software to be supported, please submit an idea in the IDEAS portal and suggest that Cognos Analytics support the operating system or software (Product = “Cognos Analytics”, include keyword “Conformance” in the idea name, Component = “Other”). We will evaluate your suggestion and determine if the operating system or software can be supported in an upcoming release.

Question: I encountered an issue with my operating system/software. According to the Cognos Analytics compatibility report, the operating system/software is supported. What should I do?

Answer

If you encounter an issue with supported conformance items, please visit our support website or open a case to contact our Cognos Analytics Support team.

Question: Is Internet Explorer (IE) 11 still supported in Cognos Analytics?

Answer

Internet Explorer 11 reached the End of Support on June 15, 2022. Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 is the last Cognos Analytics release that supports Internet Explorer 11. For better security and performance, we strongly recommend that you switch to a supported browser.

Question: Will new compatibilities be added to Query Studio and Analysis Studio?

Answer,

As of release, 12.0.0, Query Studio and Analysis Studio are removed from Cognos Analytics. Many new features and functions were added to Cognos Analytics that you can use as alternatives to these two removed components.

Question: What is the hypervisor conformance of Cognos Analytics?

Answer

Cognos Analytics 11.2 and higher is supported on specific operating systems. We do not test Cognos Analytics internally using hypervisors, and we are not responsible for any issues related to a Cognos Analytics customer's use of hypervisors. Consult your operating system vendor to determine which hypervisor versions are supported for your operating system.
