Sterling B2B Integrator to SAP S4/HANA connection

Question & Answer

Question

Does Sterling B2B Integrator have a way to connect to SAP S4/HANA in SAP public cloud?

Answer

We do not have any documentation on this at all, but per the Product Manager for B2Bi, it has been discussed with SAP and SAP is committed to supporting JCO related interaction with S/4 Hana. We were also told that the ALE/RFC/BAPI adapters will work if the SAP team enables them on their side.
We do not really have any documentation on whether how this would work, but it would be the job of the SAP Basis team to perform the tasks to handle the JCO connections.
The question also is how the Cloud version of SAP S/4 HANA would work as opposed to the On Prem version of SAP?
We were provided the following links to assist answering this question.

SAP S/4 offers RFC and JCO support     https://support.sap.com/en/product/connectors/jco.html

Hana is just a database, so our LWJDBC can be used with a third party JDBC pool  https://answers.sap.com/questions/9990212/does-sap-hana-supports-jco.html

BAPI and S/4 https://blogs.sap.com/2019/06/14/calling-bapis-in-the-sap-s4hana-public-cloud/

SAP has advised that RFC is still supported (which we interface with JCO), as there are many legacy/mature offerings (like B2Bi) out there.

It may require the cloud instance to enable RFC, but again something SAP or SAP basis admin can advise on.

SAP has advised to look at REST and ODATA as that’s the future. We don’t’ have any plans on our roadmap for this specifically, but an RFE would be needed. Click here.
