How To
Summary
Steps may need to be taken in order to start the monitor server on a partition where the ADMIN1 server is not running. Starting the monitor server is not possible from another GUI end-node where the new IBM Navigator for i monitor server has not been started one time initially.
Objective
If you have a partition with the new Navigator PTFs installed, but do not want the ADMIN1 server running, you will need to take steps to start the monitor server for the first time. This will run the proper set up required for monitors. The monitor does not check or know if the monitor server is installed before the monitor database is set up. So the monitor server should be started for the first time by one of the following which will run the appropriate setup process when needed:
- Start the monitor server manually using the command, which will run the monitor database setup process if needed (the first time on the partition):
- > QSYS/SBMJOB CMD(CALL PGM(QSYSDIR/QNAVMNSRV) PARM(*START)) JOB(QNAVMNSRV) JOBD(QGPL/QDFTSVR) JOBQ(QSYS/QSYSNOMAX) OUTQ(*CURRENT) USER(QWEBADMIN) CURLIB(*CRTDFT) INLLIBL(*JOBD) INLASPGRP(*JOBD) CCSID(37) CPYENVVAR(*YES)
OR
- Start ADMIN1 to allow the monitor server to be started automatically, which will also run the monitor database setup process if needed (the first time):
- > STRTCPSVR SERVER(*IAS) INSTANCE(ADMIN1)
Either of these above commands will install the monitor server and set up the monitor database. Once this is done, ADMIN1 and the monitor job can be stopped on this partition.
Once the monitor is set up with one of the above methods, you can start and stop the monitor server from another node's Navigator GUI.
At this time, the monitor server cannot be set up from the Navigator GUI of another node until one of the above steps are taken to start the monitor the first time which will set up the monitor database.
