SQL Server Native Client connection fails with error QE-DEF-0323 The DSN(ODBC)/ServiceName is invalid

Troubleshooting


Problem

Unable to establish a native client connection to SQL Server. Native Client has been installed properly but the connection still fails 

Symptom

QE-DEF-0285 The logon failed
QE-DEF-0323 The DSN(ODBC)/ServiceName is invalid. Either the DSN is missing or the host is inaccessible.
RQP-DEF-0068 Unable to connect to at least one database during a multi-database attach to 1 database(s) in : testDataSourceConnection

Cause

The MSSQL instance not running on standard port 1433

Resolving The Problem

When creating the connection, in the server name dialog box type the server name followed by a comma and then the port the database server is running on.
