Troubleshooting


Problem

The following problem might occur in IBM Cloud Pak System Software for Version 2.3.3.0 or later:
  • Service60 goes into an offline state

Symptom

Multiple memory dumps get generated in the "/drouter/ramdisk2/mnt/raid-volume/raid0/dumps/" folder with dumpHandler.PS.<>.<>.dump_zips.tar as the file name.
The javacore file contains an entry for the OutOfMemoryError exception. For example,
Dump Event "systhrow" (00040000) Detail "java/lang/OutOfMemoryError" "Java heap space" received

Diagnosing The Problem

A subprocess (ZSO) of Service60 gets terminated due to the OutOfMemoryError exception.
IBM Cloud Pak System Software instances with over 400 IP groups (Cloud > IP Groups menu) are more likely to experience this issue. Therefore, it is best to avoid many IP groups.

Resolving The Problem

If many IP groups cannot be avoided, the heap size of the ZSO process must be increased to resolve the issue.
Attention: These changes (modify or increase the heap size value) must be reapplied after an IBM Cloud Pak System Software upgrade.
If you need help from IBM Support to determine the heap size that you require, collect the following information and open a case with IBM Support:
Platform System Manager - management (most common):
  1. On the IBM Cloud Pak System Software user interface, click System > System troubleshooting > Collect system logs....
  2. In the list, select Platform System Manager - management (most common).
  3. Click Submit.
 
Information from Platform System Manager:
Share the output from the following commands:
  • psm info all
  • su - iwd /data/service-scripts/cps/iwd status
Logs on the Platform System Manager:
  • /drouter/local/iwd.log

Java™ dump file and ls -ltrah command output:
Share the /dumps folder list and also share the latest Java™ dump file with name format as dumpHandler.PS.<>.<>.dump_zips.tar from the output that you would derive from the following command:
ls -ltrah /drouter/ramdisk2/mnt/raid-volume/raid0/dumps/
