Serial number tracking for outbound, duplicate records,

Troubleshooting

Problem

Serial number tracking for outbound, duplicate records,

Symptom

PART: WMS-Config-INV 7.5SP1 Platform

1. Can I have duplicate serials for a node?

2. Under what condition system allows me to enter same serial number for a same item?

3. Suppose a serial get return back that is shipped out within a month, how it is handled in system now?

Cause

Resolving The Problem

1. Can I have duplicate serials for a node?

Ans: Yes you can. Duplicate serials can be received in a node for different items. For the same item you cannot receive same serial number again.

2. Under what condition system allows me to enter same serial number for a same item?

Ans: Currently when the shipment is shipped out system marks the at_node flag in YFS_GLOBAL_SERIAL_NUM to N. Once it is set to N, you can receive the same serial for the same item again. Now system turns back the flag to Y. Even during shipment purge system will not delete these records in the YFS_GLOBAL_SERIAL_NUM table. There is no separate purge also available to purge serial records.

3. Suppose a serial number is shipped out, but returned before the records for the serial number are purged, how it is handled in system now?

Ans: This works the similar way as explained for Q#2.
