Question
Users with Microsoft Office 2007 installed on their workstation receive the below warning when opening the downloaded result set from any Maximo application.
Cause
This warning is due to a new security feature in Microsoft Excel 2007 called Extension Hardening. This security warning prompts the user when the format of a file does not match it's extension and therefore may have been created by an untrusted source.
Answer
"The file you are trying to open, 'download.jsp', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?" (Yes | No | Help)
Users should be instructed to click 'Yes' when prompted by this warning. The warning does not cause any issue with Maximo or the downloaded result set.
An administrator may opt to manually suppress this message from appearing in the future by adding an entry to the Windows Registry.
To Suppress the Warning in the Future:
1. Open your Registry (Start -> Run -> regedit.exe)
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\12.0\EXCEL\SECURITY
3. Right click in the right window and choose New -> DWORD
4. Type “ExtensionHardening” as the name (without the quotes)
5. Verify that the data has the value “0″
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Security]
“ExtensionHardening”=dword:00000000
Note: This will suppress the warning for all extensions associated with Microsoft Excel 2007 and may violate your company security policy.
