Use the Sample Publisher portletto publish Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) events into the IBM? Intelligent Operations Center.

What is the Sample Publisher portlet?

The Sample Publisher portletis an automated test tool intended for an administrator managing orverifying the solution. It serves as a client application for testingthe publication of CAP messages in the IBM Intelligent Operations Center. The Sample Publisher portletcan eliminate the requirement to manually create a test client application.

What does the Sample Publisher portletdisplay?

On the Sample Events tabof the Sample Publisher portletyou can complete a form to design events with XML. Submit the formto activate a flow of sample CAP events into the system.

The Sample Publisher portletalso contains a New Event tab for creatingnew events when it is not necessary to edit the XML. Complete theform in the New Event tab to submit the CAPevent details. If you want to create new events with properties basedon the properties of an existing event enter the ID for the existingevent in the CAP Alert ID field.

On the Notifications tabyou can complete a form to submit an alert notification for specifiedgroups. The Send To Group field must matchone of the existing user groups for example CitywideExecutivesbecause only matching alerts are displayed in the Coordinator - Alerts portletlist.

Random values

On the Sample Events tabif you select the Randomize Events check boxthe portlet automatically alters the properties of the events it publishesas follows:

  • ID: the portlet generates a unique ID stringfor each event because event IDs must be unique in the IBM Intelligent Operations Center.
  • Timestamp: The portlet increments the valueof the timestamp for each event sent so that each event in the sequencearrives at a different time.
  • Location: The portlet randomizes the latitudeand longitude for each event within a range to comply with the formatrequired for latitude longitude and radius; for example 32.9525-115.55275. The radius setting is not changed.
