Running an Animation in Rational Rhapsody results in Connection port not unavailable error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to run an animation in IBM Rational Rhapsody results in error "DefaultComponent.exe could not be animated. Connection port unavailable".

Cause

This error occurs due to following known reasons:

  1. Another instance of Rational Rhapsody is running on your machine

  2. Rational Rhapsody sends the information through port 6423 by default and the port 6423 is not available to communicate the information

Resolving The Problem

The following steps help you run an Animation in Rational Rhapsody:

  1. Terminate any other running instance of Rational Rhapsody on your machine

  2. Specify the value of variable AnimationPortRage as AnimationPortRange=10 in Rhapsody.ini

Note: This change in Rhapsody.ini file will automatically allocate the next available port after 6423 to Rational Rhapsody to communicate the information

  3. Save the file Rhapsody.ini file and run an Animation
