Troubleshooting
Problem
After successful restore of VM with THIN provisioned disk(s), the disk(s) show as THICK.
Symptom
THIN provisioned disk(s) show as THICK after restore.
Cause
VMware limitation with NFS datastores.
Environment
Windows or Linux datamover
vCenter versions: 5.5, 6.0
Esx versions: 5.5, 6.0
NFS datastore
Diagnosing The Problem
After restore of a virtual machine, or a single disk (VMDK), verify the provisioned disk type.
No error messages are seen on the console or dsmerror.log file.
Note: If the NFS datastore does not support hardware acceleration, all VMDK are restored as THIN provisioned.
Resolving The Problem
