Remove heritage IBM Navigator for i from ADMIN2

Summary

The HTTP Group PTFs released in March 2023 will automatically do the removal of heritage Navigator for i.
The HTTP Group PTFs released in June 2023 will return ADMIN2 to be started by default.
With the heritage Navigator removed, the ADMIN2 server can be started and the LDAP interface is accessible by default.
Heritage Navigator is not available in 7.5 and later releases.

Objective

​You are in: IBM i Technology Updates  > Navigator for i > Heritage Navigator > Remove heritage IBM Navigator for i from ADMIN2
There is a stand-alone PTF to completely remove heritage Navigator from your system, and render it unusable.  See the heritage Navigator PTF page for details.  This will allow you to have ADMIN2 running without any use of heritage Navigator.
As part of the HTTP group PTF updates, the following have been done which also allow you to run ADMIN2 without any use of heritage Navigator:
1.  Remove configuration for heritage Navigator - With this PTF you can then run Admin2 to access the LDAP interface and not have to worry about heritage Navigator
2.  Start ADMIN2 server by default.
The heritage Navigator running in ADMIN2 is no longer started by default. If you have a requirement to access the heritage Navigator, follow the instructions on this page to Enable and Disable Heritage Navigator. 
  • There is no longer any need to do the removal of heritage IBM Navigator for i from ADMIN2 configuration with the current HTTP group PTFs.
  • As of June 2023 HTTP group PTF update, ADMIN2 will be started by default for LDAP.
The manual steps (done by the HTTP group PTFs) are listed here:

(1) End the ADMIN2 server:

  > ENDTCPSVR SERVER(*IAS) INSTANCE(ADMIN2)

(2) Remove heritage IBM Navigator for i configurations within the ADMIN2 folder. The first one is required, the second and third are optional.

  1. Edit server.xml at /qibm/userdata/os/ADMININST/admin2/wlp/usr/servers/admin2/server.xml
    • Remove line:  <include location="/QIBM/ProdData/OS400/Navigator/appdata/server.xml"/>
  2. Edit jvm.options at /qibm/userdata/os/ADMININST/admin2/wlp/usr/servers/admin2/jvm.options
    • Remove line:  -Dos400.property.file=/QIBM/ProdData/OS400/Navigator/appdata/navigator.jvm.options
  3. Edit bootstrap.properties at /qibm/userdata/os/ADMININST/admin2/wlp/usr/servers/admin2/bootstrap.properties
    • Remove line:  bootstrap.include=/QIBM/ProdData/OS400/Navigator/appdata/bootstrap.properties

(3) Start the ADMIN2 server:

  • STRTCPSVR SERVER(*IAS) INSTANCE(ADMIN2)

To add heritage IBM Navigator for i back to run under ADMIN2, add the removed lines back and restart the ADMIN2 server.
