Red Hat OpenShift cluster image-registry not starting

Question & Answer

Question

After you build out the Red Hat OpenShift cluster for Cloud Pak for Automation, why is the image-registry failing to start if you're using Amazon S3 for storage?

Cause

Amazon S3 storage limit was exceeded.

Answer

The image-registry requires storage space and Amazon S3 is a valid option.  If the image-registry operator logs indicate a resource issue, that must be corrected.  In this case, the error in the image-registry operator log showed the following:
unable to sync storage configuration: TooManyBuckets: You have attempted to create more buckets than allowed code: 400
Work with Amazon to increase your S3 storage limit to allow the storage bucket to be created.
