Prerequisites

Attention: Rational License Key Server Administration and Reporting Tool (ART) and IBM Rational License Key Server Administration Agent MUST BE CONFIGURED according to the following hardware and software specifications, otherwise failure may occur during license administration and usage reporting.

Prerequisites include:

Version of IBM Installation Manager required: IBM Installation Manager 1.7.2.

Additional Notes: Upgrade the agent and ART to version 8.1.4.5 to obtain the RFE and improvements that are included in this release. Important: If you are upgrading the ART from version 8.1.4 to 8.1.4.5, you must upgrade the ART component first, before you upgrade the agent.

Important: If you are currently using ART version 8.1.4.2 or 8.1.4.3, to upgrade to version 8.1.4.5, you cannot use the IBM Installation Manager Update option to upgrade. You must uninstall the previous version of ART. After you uninstall the previous version, the data in the installation directory remains. Do not delete this directory. When you install version 8.1.4.5, the installer migrates the data from the old installation directory into the new installation directory. Ensure that you select the option to migrate data from the old installation location during the installation. See the Upgrading section of the IBM Knowledge Center.

However, if you are currently using ART version 8.1.4.4, you can upgrade to version 8.1.4.5 using the IBM Installation Manager Update option.

If the 8.1.4 agent is configured with ART, when you upgrade to 8.1.4.5, the tool shows the reporting status as Not Running. When you select Start reporting for the first time, the log file conversion process begins. Depending on the size of your server log file, it can take time for the initial conversion of the data. The system must convert the data in the entire log to the required format.

Data backup and upgrade

When you upgrade from version 8.1.4.4 or later, the installer automatically creates a backup of your license usage data. However, if you prefer to create your own backup, copy this directory: RLKSAdmin/server/conf/lqe.

Hardware requirements

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a fixpack release. It contains fixes for client-reported and internally found defects.

Test Results

Definitions

Regression: An error in the Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
This includes:

  • Coding errors that cause a regression
  • Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression
  • Errors reported in a new function delivered in a MDV that cause a regression

Incomplete: An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
This includes:

  • Fixed APARs which did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new
  • APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression

Notes:
  • Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error
  • Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as working-as-designed are not assessed for being fix-in-error)
  • Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition

There are no known regressions to report.

Known Side Effects

The following defects were not resolved in this release:

Review the following list of known issues.

APAR Description
-- License usage for a group based chargeback report is available after 2 hours from the time the group was created in ART. Example: A chargeback group G1 was created at 9:00am. Run the group based chargeback report for G1 after 11:00am.
-- Chargeback groups in ART contain only the first level members of the groups in LDAP. Members of the subgroups are not considered as members of the ART group.
-- In a group-based chargeback report, when a user is part of more than one chargeback groups, the report shows overlapping cost. See "How are the costs computed and presented in a group-based chargeback report for a user who is part of more than one chargeback group?"
-- ART LDAP configuration accepts a single user base DN. In chargeback reports based on LDAP groups, license usage for the users under configured user base DN are considered. When multiple user base DNs exists in a corporate LDAP, provide the parent level user base DN in the ART LDAP configuration.
-- ART automatically retrieves the updated information for the chargeback groups from the LDAP server at midnight, local time. If a user, say U1, is removed from LDAP group G1 at 12:00 noon, then this modification will be synchronized with ART at 12:00 midnight. The license usage for U1 from 12:00 noon until 12:00 midnight is considered in the group-based chargeback reports. To resolve this issue, run the synchronize operation on a group in ART before running the group based chargeback report.
-- When two or more license servers contain usage for a given product, the peak usage and peak denial reports may not represent the usage for such a product in a friendly format. A bar in the peak usage report may show more than one stacked value. To resolve this issue, select only a single license server when you create a report definition.
-- When you create a group-based chargeback report definition with an active and an archived group that has the same name, you might see extra entries of groups and products in the user interface of the group-based chargeback report. To resolve this issue, select only one of the groups (the active one or the archived one) at a time. Or export the report data into a desired format ensuring that the exported data does not have any extra groups or products entries.
-- When a user accesses the RAM server using different sessions, the RAM license usage is under reported.
-- In specific browser versions (IE version 9, 10 and 11), saved report definitions may not provide a license usage report when a large number of parameters are selected. To resolve this issue, select fewer parameters in the report definitions. For example, you see this issue when you create a report that contains more than 70 products. To resolve this issue, create a report that contains fewer products. Alternatively, you can use one of the supported versions of Firefox. This issue is not seen when using Firefox.

Change History

What's new

Chargeback reports based LDAP groups

You can run chargeback reports based on LDAP groups.

Use this feature to create group-based chargeback reports for Rational products that use LDAP for user and group provisioning (for example, CLM products). Rational License Key Server Administration and Reporting Tool (ART) computes the license usage for a group by cumulating the usage for all users in a group. Users obtain licenses using unique user IDs. For products that use LDAP, this unique user ID is mapped to an LDAP attribute in an LDAP user record. You can provide the mapping of the unique user IDs to an LDAP attribute when you create chargeback groups in ART. For more details, see the LDAP user attribute name technical note.

For more details, see Creating a report definition and Creating, modifying, and archiving chargeback groups.

Reports for token license feature TLSTOK.

You can run reports for the TLSTOK token license feature. This feature is now available as a product, in a report definition.
