Rational DOORS OLEs are not launching in the desired application

Troubleshooting

Problem

My Rational DOORS OLEs are not opening up in the Application I want them to open up in.

Cause

This happens if you have OLEs added to Rational DOORS with file extension having more than 3 letters (for example: mhtml, html, docx, docm, docxml, jpeg, tiff, jfif, msstyles, potm, potx, pptm, pptx, rels, xlsx, xlsm, etcetera.)

In these cases, the letters after the 3rd letter of the file extension gets truncated when we add any OLEs with more than 3 letters extension to Rational DOORS.

This is an issue with the Microsoft Rich Edit Controls and can be reproduced in Microsoft Wordpad as well.

Rational DOORS does not have any Rich Edit Controls of its own as it uses the same as Microsoft Windows.

Resolving The Problem

Workaround:

  1. Go to Microsoft Windows -> Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Option -> File Types
  2. Make sure you have right Application associated for truncated extensions. For example: If you have an OLE with JPEG or JFIF format, then make sure you have JPE or JFI also associated with the same application as JPEG or JFIF
